As we just discussed scandals in class I thought it appropriate to bring attention to Mitch Daniels responding to an interviewer's question on his arrest for marijuana use. Daniels who is weighing a presidential bid now has to face the skeleton that he thought was way behind him. I guess your past always comes back to haunt you especially when you're running for office and the media is on you.
It still surprises me that people look at this kind of "scandal" as being a big deal. So as a college junior in 1970, he smoked pot. I challenge you to find me someone who didn't.
ReplyDeleteOn a related note, George Clooney just joked in an interview that if he ran for office, he would start off by saying, "I did it all. I drank the bong water. Now let's talk about issues." That seems to me like the right approach, so Clooney 2012?
I have to agree with DL Isenberg....Whoe cares that he smoked pot?? How does that affect his ability to run a country? People should focus on the issues rather than his past
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing makes me think about the different ways obama and clinton had/have of dealing with the press. Obama said "I inhaled. Because that was the point." Gaining him credit with hip, young, voters with a good sense of humour. Clinton followed his general policy of bullshitting on the stand, and doing a good enough job running the country so that nobody cared.(Contrast to Obama.)
ReplyDeleteBut seriously. He didn't inhale? Really? Clinton? Does anybody believe that? I mean, even my mom admits to inhaling when she tried it. Common, this guy!
